The Red One To Watch!!- ‘ANUVAHOOD’

'Anuvahood' is what can only be described as a ‘hood comedy’ out on March the 18^th 2011. It was written by Nick Taussig and directed by Adam Deacon who also stars in the film as Kenneth. The story is about a ‘wasteman’ called Kenneth AKA ‘Kay’ who mistakenly believes he can MC. Desperate for money and to help out his mother, Kenneth joins the drug trade, angering and causing repercussions with a local ‘badman’. We follow Kenneth’s journey to ‘get rich or cry trying’.

Twenty eight year old Adam Deacon from Hackney, East London has starred in many successful UK productions from films such as Kidulthood, Adulthood and Bonded by Blood to popular television shows such as The Bill and West 10 LDN.  He is an amazing actor, although arguably typecast to particular roles. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to his debut as a director.

With an amazing cast including Adam Deacon, Ashley Walters, Richard Blackwood, Eddie Kadi, Jocelyn Jee Esien, Jamie Winstone and many more, Anuvahood is a UK Urban Comedy not to be missed.

Red Man of the Moment: Gaddafi’s Garments.

For those of you oblivious to the name, Gaddafi is the President of Libya. Muammar al-Gaddafi AKA Colonel Gaddafi came into power in 1969 when he lead a small group of military officers in a bloodless coup against the former King Idris, abolishing the monarchy and proclaiming the New Libyan Arab Republic. He has been in power for nearly 42 years and is one of the longest standing non royal leaders in history
The self titled ‘King of Kings of Africa’ now faces mass protests by the people of Libya who demand he step down from power. Following the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia over recent months, groups opposed to Gaddafi are calling for ‘the end of the regime’. The protests have been ongoing since the fifteenth of February with police attempted to disperse the opposition using violence. The Human rights watch have estimated that there have been 233 deaths so far in Libya.

On a lighter note, despite the turmoil in Libya Gaddafi always brightens up the atmosphere with his colourful and weird fashion ensembles. He is undoubtedly a fashion leader as well as a state leader. Over his four decades in power his fashion has evolved. Gaddafi’s early yeas showed little eccentricity but as time went on his flamboyancy began to unravel. Gaddafi’s style is diverse with an array of flair. His Fur hats and leather and sheepskin jackets form a chic winter look. The military style suits with gold tassels represent fashionable formal attire. Colourful African robes portray a cultural relaxed look and his silk shirts and linen trousers form a more casual swagger.

It’s refreshing to see a leader like Gaddafi alongside other world leaders as he stands out against the typical boring dark coloured suite and tie attire.

From the G8 summit to visits at the EU Gaddafi takes pride in his appearance and clearly puts a lot of thought into his ensembles in order to both fit the occasion and make a statement.

Gaddafi further adds to his unique style by employing female bodyguards to protect him. Who does that?? Only Gaddafi!

Finally Gaddafi throws up peace signs or ‘Deuces’ perhaps, seeing as he’s so cutting edge. Despite the present turmoil in Libya, It’s always refreshing to see what Gaddafi brings to the table. If it doesn’t work out for him in Libya, with that swagger I’m sure there’s a place for him in one of the fashion capitals of the world……. London, New York or Milan perhaps. ;-)

Red Alert! Bum Injection Death: Cludia Aderotimi.

The tragic death of British Claudia Aderotimi on Tuesday the 8th of February, following silicone bum injections has shocked both the USA and the UK.
Aderotimi’s friends claimed that she believed a bigger bum would help her get more work in music videos. The 20 year old student flew to the USA to have the £1300 back alley bum injections in The Hampton Inn Hotel, South Philadelphia.
Claudia from Hackney, East London and three of her friends took the trip to the states in search of their unique style American dream. Two of them went along for moral support and a holiday while the other two had pre organised their cosmetic operations. This type of procedure wasn’t new to Aderotimi who had previously made the trip in November last year to have the injections. She returned this month for ‘top up’ injections. Aderotimi began to complain about chest pains a day after the surgery and was rushed to a local hospital where she died 90 minutes after she had been admitted. Doctors blamed Aderotimi’s death on a botched silicone injection that was pumped directly into her vascular system, which eventually stopped her heart.

It is not yet known who performed the surgeries and if it was even performed by a registered surgeon. Police insist on finding out if the two women who administered the injections were licensed to do so. Police have searched the homes of two women who allegedly injected the silicone and are investigating whether they are part of an organised gang responsible for luring unsuspecting people over the internet. One woman has been arrested.

"Back alley" surgeries like this are becoming increasingly popular amongst young people who cannot afford to pay for these types of operation. The increasing ‘Barbie doll’ cosmetic images and ideologies created by stars today is undoubtedly having an influence on the self a steam and attitudes of young people. Rapper 'Nicki Minaj' who recently visited the UK is renowned for her large silicone bum implants amongst other alleged modifications. We have to question whether 'role models' like these have an influential impression on young people and whether they hold some responsibility in raising awareness about the perils and risks present in cosmetic surgery.

Minaj is just an example of influential factors that contribute to such tragedies. But on a whole we must look at the bigger picture of society and its representations of beauty and why people feel they have to go to such lengths to be accepted or to be happy.

Chris Brown VS Raz B

Chris Brown and ex B2K boy band member Raz B ended 2010 with a tricky twitter war. The so called “twitter beef” was triggered by a tweet posted by Raz B which stated “Im just sittin here Thinking how can niggas like @ebenet & @ChrisBrown disrespect women as Intelligent as @HalleBerry11 @Rihanna”

The feud then spiralled out of control with the pair tweeting back and forth firing and name calling each other with phrases like “wife beater” and “homothug”. The tweets were gruelling to whiteness. It seemed like a cry for attention on Raz B’s part and a representation of Chris’ short temper. Overall the pair portrayed a negative image of themselves and each other through their tweets.

Chris Brown later made a public apology for his part in the twitter war with Raz B stating to TMF that it was “An unfortunate lack in judgment sparked by public Twitter attacks from Raz B, who was bent on getting attention. Words cannot begin to express how sorry and frustrated I am over what transpired publicly on Twitter."

Chris’ apology was shortly followed by a tweet in the early hours of new years eve by Raz B stating “twitter is a place to have fun.. I had my opinion ..i apologize 4 pulling @ChrisBrown into it.. so stop wit the hate messages.”

So it appears that Raz B regrets his rant at Chris Brown. Chris’ loyal fans have clearly been firing at Raz B via twitter in his defence. They say that all publicity is good publicity and Raz B’s episode, if nothing else increased his followers on twitter.

Red Hot Gossip! Vybz Kartel 'Cake Soap' Bleaching!

I had to mention the vain scandal surrounding the tremendously talented dancehall artist Vybz Kartel and his alleged bleaching.The man himself has been quoted on ‘TVJ’s Entertainment Report’ saying: "No enuh… yuh kno mi naa bleach baby. Mi just wash mi face wid di cake soap and tru mi inna di ac inna mi vehicle, ac inna mi house, ac pon di plane when mi travel — mi skin just smooth out and di girl dem love it. Wah mi fi do — wah? Oh!"
To briefly translate he is claiming he does not bleach his skin. He goes on to explain that between his use of ‘Cake Soap’ and his limited time in the sun his skin has lightened. He then boasts that his skin is smooth and girls love it.
I’ve done my research and ‘cake soap’ is in fact a detergent soap which contains bleach.What happened to the commonly used Jamaican saying “the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice”?

The Red One To Watch!! Jessie J

Jessie J is a twenty two year old singer songwriter from Essex. She is signed on both sides of the Atlantic to Island Records in the UK and Lava records in the US. Singing and dancing on stage from the age of 11 and studying at the BRIT school from the age of sixteen Jessie J clearly has music in her blood. Her past includes a brief stint with a girl group as well as writing for an array of successful artists such as Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus and Christina Aguilera.

I’ve been on YouTube this afternoon trailing through the many uploads of Jessie J singing her lungs out. This female vocalist really excites me. She is fresh, funky and fantastically talented. She confesses she “cannot mime” and it would be an outrage for such a talented singer to demean herself by doing so. Type Jessie J into you tube and you will be bombarded with videos from home made clips, to live performances and music videos. She is a diverse pop artist, with a unique soulful sound.

‘Do It Like A Dude’ was released on the 21st of November and is an amazing up beat, rocky, slightly controversial track. Just how we like it Jessie! Jessie J originally wrote the song for Rihanna and we can see why. But Jessie decided to keep it for herself and we are glad. It is a brilliant debut single and the video is just as hot.

She has already been announced as MTV’s top tip for 2011 and tipped in the BBC’s sound of 2011 poll. Her debut album “Who You Are” will be released in 2011 and we look forward to hearing what tracks make the album.

My favourite tracks include: ‘Mama Knows Best’, ‘Nobodies Perfect’ and the amazing ‘Who’s Laughing Now'.

Kojo’s Comedy Fun House Christmas Special!!

Its midweek and the weekend is still days away but If you’re a socialite like me you still want to get out and have some fun. The perfect spot tonight is Kojo’s Comedy Fun House taking place at Sound nightclub in Leicester Square. Tonight is the Fun house Christmas special. The show is hosted as always by the hilariously charismatic Kojo with an amazing line up of comedians.

Comedians Kevin J, Funmbi, Babatunde and Slim will be entertaining the audience tonight alongside DJ Longers, Miss Candy and the sexy Fun House girls and guys all in the building.

Advance tickets for this event are sold out but you can pay on the door. The doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
